I know before becoming a mom, my life was already busy. Having twins just put that into overdrive.

As a new mom, you may be experiencing being pulled in a million different directions trying to please everyone.

And sometimes you just need some space.

As a new mom, your home can become a revolving door of people and visitors.

Your phone that was ever so quiet is now a hotspot for video chats and calls to check on you and the baby.

Your precious downtime has now turned into having company over (pre-COVID), video chatting with relatives, and listening to a barrage of unsolicited advice.

Because let’s face it, as a new mom, we are all overwhelmed by this overnight enormous change that doesn’t come with a manual.

The truth is, sometimes, you want to stay in your pajamas all day, hair messy, and not talk to anyone. And I am here to tell you, that is ok.

Sometimes as a new mom, we get caught up in the people-pleasing and not wanting to disappoint anyone, that we can lose ourselves and sanity in the process.

We are so afraid of hurting the feelings of others, that we sacrifice our own well-being, for the sake of others.

It is ok to say no, it is ok as a new mom to need some space, and here is why.

At the end of the day, there are two priorities.

If you have that funny feeling in your stomach when you are about to do something you don’t want to do, that is your sign.

Listen to it.

Honor it.

Maybe this means prioritizing their schedule ahead of someone else’s.

Maybe this means saying no when someone wants to visit at a bad time.

Maybe this means saying no when you just want some quality time alone.

Maybe this means finding your voice when something makes you uncomfortable.

Maybe this means you taking a bath or watching a movie while they sleep, instead of having company.

Maybe this means not answering that Facetime call because you just don’t feel like it.

It is ok to say no. It is ok not to answer.

It is ok as a new mom to need some space.

That doesn’t make you bad or mean.

Because at the end of the day, you are taking care of you so you can take care of them the best you can.

You need to respect and value your time and take care of you.

That is not selfish. That is self-care.

So remember always beautiful mama.

You are their protector first and foremost.

You have everything it takes.

You have everything you need.

Never ignore that voice inside of you, because it always tells you exactly what you need.
